Zabidin Bin Salleh

Associate Professor

Zabidin Salleh received his first degree in Bachelor of Science with Honors (Mathematics) and Diploma of Education (Mathematics and Physics Method) both from Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1992 and in 1995, respectively. He then started his career as a teacher at several schools under the Ministry of Education Malaysia from 1994 to 2008.
During worked as a teacher in schools, he pursued M.Sc degree at Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang from 2000 to 2002 under the supervision by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Rosihan M. Ali. After completed the M.Sc degree in the field of Complex Analysis, he then pursued Ph.D degree at Universiti Putra Malaysia, Serdang under the supervision by Prof. Dr. Adem Kılıçman from 2004 to 2008. In 2008, he obtained Ph.D degree in Topology, and later on 5th October 2008, he was appointed as a senior lecturer at the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science and Technology, UMT. On May 2012, UMT has promoted him to Associate Professor.
As an academician, he has taught various undergraduate courses such as Real Analysis, Modern Algebra, Functional Analysis, Topology, Calculus, Advanced Calculus, Vector Calculus, Complex Variable Calculus, Algebra, Linear Algebra, Stochastics Differential Equations, Nonlinear Differential Equations and have supervised more than fifty Final Year Project students.
As a researcher, he was involved with a total of 14 research grants; Postgraduate Research Grant (PGRG), Geran Galakan Penyelidikan (GGP), Geran Pengajian Siswazah, Skim Tabung Penyelidik Muda, Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) and TAPE-RG. As a project leader and co-researcher, he has obtained a total amount of RM883,552 research grants and successfully completed 10 research grants.
His recent research work focuses on the fixed point theory on fuzzy metric spaces and their generalizations. This includes research interests in the generalized fuzzy metric spaces and contraction mappings. He has extensively collaborated with research institutions and universities in Malaysia. He is actively conducting a research in his field of interests through the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
In terms of postgraduate supervision, as a main supervisor for postgraduate study, 3 Ph.D and 7 M.Sc students have graduated under his supervision. While as a co-supervisor, 2 Ph.D and 1 M.Sc students have graduated. Currently, he has supervising 2 Ph.D students and 1 M.Sc student as the main supervisor.
Publication wise, he has published more than 100 journal articles where 110 from the journal articles are Scopus indexed and 82 of them are WoS indexed. He also published 2 books, 1 monograph, 1 chapter in book, and 32 proceeding papers, and also 2 proceedings as chief editor. His current Scopus h-index is 12 and total number of citations is 468 while my Google Scholar h-index is 16, i10 index is 33 with the total number of citations is 957. Currently, his WoS h-index is 8 and total number of citations is 184. In the context of editorial board, he was appointed as editor for several international journals, namely Mathematical Problems in Engineering (Hindawi), Discovering Mathematics, MAYFEB Journal of Mathematics, SCIREA Journal of Mathematics and Earthline Journal of Mathematical Sciences. He also was appointed as associate editor for Universiti Malaysia Terengganu Journal of Undergraduate Research (UMT JUR). Currently he was appointed as Editor-in-Chief for the UMT new journal, namely Journal of Mathematical Sciences and Informatics (JMSI).
In terms of academic leadership, he has contributed at international, national and university levels. At international level, he has contributed by reviewing many journal articles, conference papers, organizing committee for international and national conferences. He has served as external examiners for 2 MSc and 15 Ph.D thesis from international universities and various universities in Malaysia; Andhra University, Annamalai University, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, UKM, UTM, UPM, and UPSI.
As for international linkages, he has had research collaboration with several international researchers. Some of them is from the Department of Mathematics, City University of Science and Information Technology, Peshawar, Pakistan, and from the Department of Mathematics, Payame Noor University, Post Office Box: 19395-3697, Tehran, Iran. He also had research collaboration with researcher from the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, Mansoura University, Egypt and Department of Mathematics, Rustaq College of Education, Rustaq, Oman. The activities for collaborations are supervising postgraduate students and publishing research article journals.
Furthermore, he has been appointed to one administration positions in UMT as academic program chairman form 1st April 2019 to 31st July 2019. He also was appointed as National Mathematical Olympiad Coordinator by PERSAMA for two years from January 2018 to December 2019, and as Committee member for 1 year from February 2017 to January 2018. Next, he has appointed as National Mathematical Olympiad Advisor from February 2020 to December 2021. He has been appointed as Final Year Project Coordinator by PPIMG and FTKKI from February 2018 to January 2022. Not to mention his involvement in various committees at department, faculty and university levels. In administration and management, he believes in nurturing and motivating the team member to excel and achieve the institutional goals.
